American Locomotive Company Model FA-1 Diesel - Built by ALCO Schenectady in Conjunction with General Electric Between January 1946 and October 1950 - Additional Units Were Also Produced by the Montreal Locomotive Works - 1500 Horsepower - Later Upgraded to 1600 Horsepower - Available With and Without Dynamic Brakes - Some Models Equipped With Steam Generators for Passenger Service - 445 FA-1 Locomotives Employed by Multiple Railroads in the United States, Canada, and Mexico - 249 FB-1 B Units Were Also Built - Operated in Both Freight and Passenger Service
